NEED TO KNOW
- Amanda Hein allegedly wrapped baby in plastic bag, left him in toilet tank
- Prosecutors claim Hein returned to table, watched rest of pay-per-view event afterward
- Hein is charged with criminal homicide
A Pennsylvania woman is being held without bond after she allegedly gave birth to a baby boy in a bar bathroom, killed him and left his body in a toilet tank.
According to prosecutors, 26-year-old Amanda Catherine Hein went with three men to Starters Pub in Lower Saucon Township on August 18 to watch a pay-per-view wrestling event. The following morning, a cleaning crew at the pub allegedly discovered the dead body of a newborn baby wrapped in a plastic bag in a toilet tank in the ladies' bathroom.
Investigators found that one of the booths in the pub had brown staining and liquid on it that's consistent with blood, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli. Police checked the bar’s records and made contact with the person who had reserved the booth for the event that night.
Police then interviewed Luis Rivera, who said he sat in that booth with Hein during the event. Rivera claimed Hein complained about discomfort and spasms that evening before excusing herself to go to the bathroom, Morganelli told reporters Monday.
Rivera told police Hein was gone for “an extended period of time,” then returned to the table and went outside to smoke a cigarette, according to Morganelli.
When Hein came back, Rivera allegedly asked if she was OK, and she said she was but she was in pain. She stayed for about an hour to watch the rest of the event. Rivera noticed that there appeared to be liquid on Hein’s clothes that looked like blood, Morganelli said.
Rivera said he asked Hein multiple times if she needed to go a hospital but she refused, so he dropped her off at home, according to authorities.
A medical examiner performed an autopsy on the baby on August 20 and found that the boy was born alive and viable and had gestated for 33 to 36 weeks. The cause of death was determined to be suffocation.
When Hein was interviewed by police, she allegedly admitted she gave birth in a bathroom stall and left the baby in the toilet tank, court documents stated.
“She placed the child in a plastic bag which she obtained from the garbage can in the stall. She then put the plastic bag containing the child in the water tank for the toilet. Hein advised after she placed the bag and child in the toilet tank, she returned to the dining area until the event was over,” a probable cause affidavit alleged.
Morganelli said Monday that Hein had known she was pregnant for a few months but did not tell anyone. Investigators are still trying to determine whom the child’s father was.
Prosecutors have not yet made a decision on whether to seek the death penalty in the case. Morganelli told reporters he does not know what may have motivated Hein to allegedly kill her child.
“I cannot get inside this lady’s head,” he said. “I have no clue.”
Morganelli described the case as “very upsetting.”
Northhampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek reminded reporters that Pennsylvania has safe haven laws that allow a parent to relinquish a child to the state at any hospital up to 28 days after birth with no questions asked.
“It’s a sad situation,” Morganelli said. “This young lady made a very, very bad choice. Why? I don’t know.”
Court records do not indicate whether Hein has an attorney. Her stepmother told the Morning Call newspaper that she had not even known Hein was pregnant.
Hein appeared in court Monday for a preliminary arraignment on a criminal homicide charge. She was denied bond.

***VMA'S IN BROOKLYN..*** BIG UP!!
8 Things You Didn’t See at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards
We know you were screaming when 'N Sync took the stage and scratching your heads as you watchedMiley Cyrus twerk up a storm, but what didn't you see at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards?
A whole lot, it turns out.
In addition to all the tales of stage failures, we witnessed a few impressive, even shoe-flying dance moments, a little snuggle sesh between a possible couple to watch, and even an A-list accidental diss.
Without further ado, here's what we saw from inside Brooklyn's Barclays Center Sunday night.
1. Joseph Gordon-Levitt leaves Justin Timberlake hanging.
After that killer performance that clocked in at over 15 minutes, there's no question it was J.T.'s night, but apparently not everyone was waiting to shake his hand. After Joseph Gordon-Levitt announced the winner for Best Video – in an uncomfortably odd manner, we might add – we watched as he tried to find a place to stand so he wasn't in the frame as the "Mirrors" crooner accepted the award. Things got even more awkward when Justin finished – he turned around with his hand reaching out to shake Joseph's, but the "Don Jon" actor had already made a beeline off the stage. Oops.

After introducing the teaser trailer for "Divergent" with Theo James during the pre-show, Shailene Woodley sat down next to "The Spectacular Now" co-star Miles Teller (who also happens to be in "Divergent"). Typically, this wouldn't mean much of anything – actors are often seated next to their co-stars at awards shows – but we watched as the two rising stars took turns wrapping their arms around each other's shoulders and cracking each other up. While all that might be nothing, it was definitely cute.
3. Rihanna is unimpressed with pretty much everything.
The "Diamonds" singer fast became the meme-worthy McKayla Maroney – or the Tommy Lee Jones – of this awards ceremony. No matter what was happening on stage or around her, she sat stiffly still with a frown on her face. OK, there's one big exception: Even she couldn't sit still forJustin Timberlake's performance.

4. Justin Timberlake inspires a whole lotta shaking.
Rihanna wasn't the only one. Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, along with "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland and her "Vampire Academy" co-star Zoey Deutch, might have been the first people out of their seats in the entire Barclays Center as J.T. (and 'N Sync!) took the stage, and Sarah just never stopped dancing for the rest of the night. Shailene Woodley got in on the action, even ripping off her shoes in true Shai form. Lady Gaga also got to her feet during the performance, but saved the jumping and wild gestures for when the "Sexy Back" singer actually got his award.

5. Drake is the most popular guy in school.
We've always thought Drake had no shortage of charm, but who knew the stars would be lining up for a hug and a handshake?! During every commercial break, no less than three stars would vie for his attention. From Taylor Swift and Willow Smith to Machine Gun Kelly and Denise Vasi, everyone wanted to experience his greatness … or at least his cologne.

6. Taylor Swift cheers for One Direction's big win...
She may have hurled another diss Harry Styles's way when she accepted her award for Best Female Video, but T.Swift was all ears when it came to hearing her ex-BF receive his award along with the One Direction crew. The star clapped politely (but more enthusiastically than anyone else in her row, which included Lady Gaga) and leaned forward to hear what he had to say. Was she expecting him to sling one right back at her? C'mon Tay, that's not 1D's style!

7. ... But plenty don't cheer for it.
In fact, we only heard boos once all night … and it was when One Direction won for Best Song of the Summer. Sorry, ladies. And, no, we weren't sitting behind Billy Ray Cyrus either.

8. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis stick to their word.
On Friday, Drake told MTV he'd be willing to fork over some cold, hard cash to own one of the new KAWS-designed Moonman trophies. "I might have to tell Macklemore like, 'Yo, I'll buy that trophy off of you,' if he beats me," he said. Macklemore responded with a price: $200 million Canadian dollars, and apparently he meant it. "We have to contractually sell one to Drake. For 2 million Canadian dollars," Macklemore said in the press room when asked what he'd be doing with his prize. We're glad the price went down, but something tells us the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Video With a Social Message winners aren't really going to sell. Sorry, Drake, we guess you'll just have to live with the Mr. Popularity title.

The Perfect Workout For 40+: Triathlon Training
By Jenna Bergen

There are plenty of things to love about getting older—you’ve learned to appreciate the little things (a purring cat on your lap, the first strawberry of summer, comfortable heels that go with everything), you’ve made peace with your faults (or at least most of them), and you can eat dessert before dinner and no one is going to say you can’t. But the wisdom of age also brings another inevitability: “Bodies change as we age,” says physiologist Tom Holland, C.S.C.S., author of The 12-Week Triathlete. Hormone levels change, and you naturally lose metabolism-revving muscle mass starting around age 30—about half a pound a year. As a result, metabolism slows, making weight gain easier. (Help your body burn more calories by incorporating these 4 Foods That Speed Up Metabolism into your diet.)
One of the best ways to stay fit and injury-free in your 30s, 40s, and beyond is one many women have already discovered: triathlons—a race where you swim, bike, and run, one sport immediately following the other. Nearly 40% of triathletes are now women, and female participation has jumped 10% over the last decade, according to USA Triathlon. What’s more, the largest membership increase is within the 30 to 49 age groups, and the average triathlon participant is 38.
More from Prevention: The Anti-Aging Workout
Why the buzz? “It’s essentially forced cross-training,” Holland explains. Because triathletes need to spend time in the pool and on the bike, their joints and muscles get a break from the constant pounding and stress of running, which makes you less likely to experience overuse injuries like shin splints. Regularly varying your training also helps keeps your metabolism high: “You’re constantly forcing muscles to adapt to new movements, which works them harder than if you were doing the same activity day in and day out, so you can burn more calories,” Holland says. (If it's been a long time since you had any fun while exercising, check out these 5 Fun Fat-Blasting Workouts.)
Nicole Donovan, 45, of Connecticut, has personally seen tri training change her life. The former high school gymnast and mother of six first started working out a few days a week at 43 to get fitter and lose weight. To stay on track, she decided to sign up for her first triathlon. “There were some tidal issues with the swim, and over 1,000 participants,” she says. “But it didn't affect me. I was so happy just to be there. My goal was to finish. And I did. I felt fantastic.”
Now she’s a triathlon regular. “My body has changed back to the one I had when I was a gymnast,” she says. “I constantly get compliments for my shoulders and arms thanks to all the swimming.” (You can get sleek, sexy arms and shoulders too, with these 10-Minute Exercises To Tone Your Arms.)
Ready to follow Donovan’s lead? Here are a few things you need to know about triathlons before you get started:
- Make your first race a sprint triathlon. This is the shortest distance—usually a half-mile swim, 12-mile bike, and 3-mile run. Most beginners will finish the race in about 2 hours.
- The average training plan for a sprint triathlon lasts about 6 to 8 weeks.
- You don’t have to invest in a ton of fancy equipment. You can ride any working bike—yes, even a mountain bike or beach cruiser. Many local bike shops will rent you a bike for a day.
- Women’s races tend to be especially beginner-friendly. Check out the Athleta Iron Girl series or search trifind.com. And invite your best gal pals to join you!
- If you haven’t swum the freestyle stroke since high school (or ever), look for a group adult swim class for triathletes. You can usually find one through a local triathlon club or a local pool. Many triathlon coaches also offer one-on-one swim coaching.
- A triathlon is a logistical marvel. Make sure to read the race website and athlete packet thoroughly so you know exactly where you need to be and when, and so you’re familiar with triathlon rules.

DMX arrested again by South Carolina police
By Alan Duke, CNN

Rapper DMX's mugshot as he was booked into the Greer jail Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
- NEW: "No drugs were found on DMX or the other passengers," his publicist says
- The officer recognized DMX and knew there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest
- The arrest comes 4 weeks after DMX was charged with drunk driving in Greenville, S.C.
- DMX was released after being cited for simple possession of marijuana
(CNN) -- Rapper DMX had another run-in with police in South Carolina this week, ending with a citation for marijuana possession.
The arrest in Greer, South Carolina, comes four weeks after he was charged with drunken driving in Greenville, just one town away.
DMX -- whose real name is Earl Simmons -- was a passenger in a Ford F-350 truck stopped by police for allegedly making an improper lane change Tuesday night, according to the police report.
The police report said the officer immediately recognized Simmons, 42, and knew that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court for a previous charge.
The officer reported seeing "a bag of green plant material I knew to be marijuana" on the passenger door where Simmons was sitting. The rapper denied it was his and then told police he "had breathing trouble."
"At this point, Mr. Simmons became very aggressive with his words and was making multiple idle threats," the police report said. "The smell of alcohol coming from his person became very strong."
Simmons was placed under arrest for the warrant and also cited for simple possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Greer jail, but released on bail hours later, a police spokesman said.
The artist's publicist defended DMX in a written statement to CNN Wednesday.
"Although officers pulled them over for a minor traffic violation, DMX was asked to step outside so they can search the vehicle," Domenick Nati said. "Officers then claimed that they found bags of marijuana in the floorboard and arrested X. No drugs were found on DMX or the other passengers and the alleged bags of marijuana were never shown to DMX or the other passengers."
Anitra Rhodes, 39, was charged with improper lane change and simple possession of marijuana after three bags of suspected marijuana were found under the driver's seat, the police report said. Nati said Rhodes is DMX's assistant.
On July 26, troopers in Greenville pulled over in a 1978 Plymouth station wagon after spotting it traveling erratically, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. DMX, who was driving, was given a field sobriety test and failed, the agency said.
The rapper was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license and driving without a seat belt.
DMX has faced various criminal charges in the past, including probation violation, illegal drug possession and animal cruelty.
Maricopa County, Arizona, authorities said he was arrested five times after August 2007. That included a May 2008 arrest on drug and animal cruelty charges, when Simmons attempted to barricade himself inside his Cave Creek home, sheriff's deputies said.
Simmons also ran into trouble while in prison, being placed on "lockdown status" and forced to eat only bread and water for "jailhouse infractions." In February 2009, he threw a food tray in anger at a corrections officer, according to the sheriff's office.
In 2010 he was sent to prison after violating his probation. Four days later DMX was admitted to the Flamenco Mental Health unit for an undisclosed disorder.

A while back, rumors were flying about a bitter split between Luis Miguel and Daisy Fuentes. Well, we can assure you that the gorgeous Ms. Daisy is doing just fine. In a recent interview, she assured her fans not to worry about her love life.
“I am never alone,” she told Siempre Mujer. “There are always suitors around, but right now I am actually not in a serious relationship. I am not even pursuing it because love doesn’t come when you’re looking.”
For the record, Fuentes is a very good catch. Fiercely independent, she runs her own clothing line, has hair care products and makes a bundle via an exclusive deal with Kohl’s.
And don’t forget the fact that she’s drop dead gorgeous. At 46, Daisy certainly seems to be hitting her stride and we imagine it’s only a matter of time for Mr. Right comes knocking.
